Nooks are here and in action!
Nooks – Week 1
The Nooks are here! With an amazing turnout for the pick-up days on Sunday and Monday, all the nooks have been handed out to students! According to many teachers the “buzz” from the students is very positive. Through a couple of days of me (Mr. Burke) walking around classrooms, I have already seen many of the Nooks in action for classroom assignments. Miss Williams and Miss Cripe were using the Nook to explore suffixes, prefixes and affixes. Mrs. Ramage is using them for science current events. Miss Shafer had them up and running in math. Mrs. Weisbrod was the first classroom I saw with the Nook, and the were using them for research. The ease and convenience has really had an immediate impact in the classroom.
Students have been able to access their learning platforms on the go and have been able to communicate with teachers using email on the Nook. Students have been able to work on Schoology and Google Docs as well as check their grades and homework on Progress Book. We have also had our first Tech Team meeting – we assembled a list of tech savvy kids to help us plan, problem solve and create in our new Nook world. We are hoping these students can drive as much innovation with this device as the teachers are.
Of course, this is completely new so there have been some small hurdles and bugs, but we are working through those and moving forward. Week 2 will bring training everyday in exploratory, so we are hoping to have lots of Nook experts in our building!
